Mitt Romney the Winner of Iowa Caucus  Results 2012:Mitt Romney was projected the winner of the Iowa meeting Tuesday night.Former Massachusetts governor came out the winner over former Sen. Despite the victory, Romney was unable to obtain 25% of the vote. With 99.5% of precincts reporting, Romney won 24.6% to 24.5% in Santorum. In total, more than 122,000 ballots were cast straw, which is a record for Iowa Republicans.

Although the results are not binding when it comes to choosing the Iowa 25 delegates of the Republican Party convention next summer in Tampa, Romney is the projected 13 delegates to 12 Santorum, the Associated Press reported.

Heading into leadoff voting 2012 election season, recent polls have shown Romney holding a thin edge over rival bidders U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), and Santorum. Paul finished third in the competition.In 2008, Romney poured $ 10 million in his campaign in Iowa, but eventually took second place after the former governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee.
